David Ball | Complete Bio

Songwriter.  Vocalist.  Musician.  Grammy Award Winner.

David Ball was born in South Carolina, growing up in a very musical environment.  Everyone in the family played an instrument.  Starting out on guitar, David also played piano, and later, teh bass fiddle.  "I played everthing from Clasical to Bluegrass."  David found Austin, TX to be another fertile musical landscape, where he moved with Uncle Walt's Band in th late 1970's.  "All kinds of great music was being made in Texas, but Bob Wills is still the King."  In the mid 1980's, a publishing deal brought David to Nashville.

In 1993, David recorded his now multi platinum debut album and single Thinkin' Problem for Warner Brothers, selling over 3 million copies!  Thinkin' Problem garnered him a Grammy nomination as Male Vocalist of the Year.  David wrote or co-wrote all but one song on the album and has received the BMI Millionaire Award (for over one million air plays) for "Thinkin' Problem," "When the Thought of You Catches Up With Me," and "Look What Followed Me Home."  More hits followed, including "Circle of Friends" and the 2002 smash "Riding With Private Malone."  David has toured with some of the biggest acts in Country Music: Alan Jackson, Brooks & Dunn, Dwight Yoakum, and Toby Keith.

David returned to his Texas roots, touring and performing there for the few years.  In 2008 he assembled an all-star band of Nashville players, who have worked with such artists as Dwight Yoakum, John Michael Montgomery, and Lionel Hampton.  In Spring of 2009, David has taken his band, The Pioneer Playboys, back into the studio to record his first album of new material since 2004.  Look for David and the boys back on the road and back on the radio, playing this new material along with the multi-platinum #1's!
